4 Signs You Need Swimming Pool Repair

There is a point at which a pool stops having a water problem and starts having a mechanical one. These are the four signals that you have crossed it, and adding chemicals past this point does not help.

1. The water stays cold and you have a heater

The instinct is that the heater has failed. Usually it has not. The common causes are blocked pipework restricting flow through the unit, or controls that have stopped calling for heat at all.

A heater that is not getting enough flow will refuse to fire, and that refusal is a safety interlock working correctly rather than a fault. Replacing a heater that was never broken is one of the more expensive mistakes available to a pool owner, which is why this one is worth diagnosing before buying anything.

2. The water stays dirty

Water that will not clear after a proper service is pointing at flow or filtration. It could be a pipework issue, a sand filter that has blocked or channeled, or a pump that is no longer moving the volume it is rated for.

What it is not is a chemistry problem, and this is the sign owners most often misread. If clarity has been degrading for weeks while the chemical readings stay correct, the mechanical side is where to look.

3. Cracking in the pool walls

This is the urgent one and it should not wait. Cracking can indicate water leaving the shell, and a leak behind a pool in Fort Bend County is a soil problem as much as a pool problem. The clay here moves with moisture, and a slow leak feeding into it will keep making the crack worse.

If you are seeing cracks and also topping the pool up more than you used to, treat those two facts as related until someone has proved otherwise.

4. The pool lights have stopped working

Pool lights are mains voltage in water. That is the whole reason this is on the list, and the reason it is not a do-it-yourself repair under any circumstances, whatever the video suggested.

Fittings do fail, and both incandescent and color-changing LED units are straightforward for a licensed technician to replace. The danger is not the repair, it is who does it.
