Stafford, Texas · Pool care since 2003

Weekly pool care and equipment repair across Stafford and Fort Bend County.

CPO-certified cleaners on a weekly route, and a repair bench that takes on the pump, heater and salt-cell work other contractors turn down. Free estimates.

What Reed’s actually is

A route, a bench, and a shop on Summer Park Drive.

Two halves of the same business. The route is the weekly visit: the same cleaner, the same day, water tested and balanced against what the week actually did to it. The bench is everything mechanical behind the equipment pad, from a time clock that has drifted to a salt cell that has stopped making chlorine.

James Ayre bought the business from founder Reed Hartzog in August of 2017, a few weeks before Harvey. The name on the truck has been on Fort Bend County pools since 2003.

A Fort Bend County backyard pool with the automatic cleaner hose in the water

The weekly route

The same cleaner, the same day, every week.

Customers stay for a decade or more because the route does not shuffle. Debbie McGuire has been with Reed's at least ten years. Jim Wilson has had us on his equipment for twenty.

Before you call

Four things a pool does when something behind it has failed.

None of these fix themselves, and two of them get more expensive the longer they run.

The water stays cold with a heater fitted

Usually blocked pipework or a control board that has stopped calling for heat. The heater is rarely the part that is actually broken.

The water stays dirty after a service

A pipework fault, a sand filter that has blocked, or a pump no longer moving the volume it is rated for. Chemistry alone will not clear it.

Cracking in the pool walls

This is the urgent one. Cracks can mean water is leaving the shell, and the ground under a Fort Bend County pool does not forgive that for long.

The pool lights have stopped

Mains voltage next to water. Never a do-it-yourself job, whatever the video said. We replace incandescent and color-changing LED fittings.

A sand filter tank and pump motor installed on a pool equipment pad

The equipment pad

The half of a pool nobody photographs.

Everything that makes the water move sits on a slab beside the house. When it is right, nobody thinks about it. We install and service the equipment we would put on our own pads:

  • Pentair MasterTemp Heater. No pilot light, a small footprint, a digital readout and a rustproof casing.
  • Pentair IntelliChlor salt cell. Chlorine generated from table salt, so there is nothing to buy, store or carry.
  • VS FloPro pump. Variable speed, and up to 90% less energy than a single-speed motor.
  • Easy Touch automated system by Pentair. Pool and spa functions, and the lights, from wherever you are.
  • Polaris 480 Pro cleaner. Stainless belts and rigid PVC tubing, with no bearings to seize.

I have been using Reed's pool service for at least 10 years for all my pool needs. They are very professional, friendly and reply to my requests in a timely manner. They do a great job and the prices are reasonable. I just started using their pool cleaning service and Victor has been doing an awesome job.

Reeds Pool service has taken care of my pool equipment for 20 years. They do a great job. I recently added weekly pool cleaning to the scope of the pool service. It is nice to have them handling the job I have done myself for all of the years.

Reed's Pool Service is superb and stands out among all others in Houston! After my under-warranty Polaris PB4-50 pump stopped working, Leslie's Pool Supplies refused to help without hefty fees (and previously the pump was installed by a local store of Leslie pool supply). Polaris gave me a list of authorized contractors, but most declined the small job. Everything changed when I called James at Reed's Pool Service. He collected my receipt and serial number, then immediately sent a technician. The tech not only repaired the pump for free under warranty but also taught us how to maintain it. This is exactly the 5-star service every pool owner desires. I will definitely use James and Reed's for all my future pool needs!

The Reed's Pool Service unit on Summer Park Drive in Stafford at dusk

Since 2003

Reed Hartzog started it. James Ayre kept it.

James is a Texas native and a University of Houston graduate. He bought Reed’s from founder Reed Hartzog in August of 2017 and then, almost immediately, spent a season on Fort Bend County pools that Hurricane Harvey had filled with half the neighborhood.

He kept the name, the route and the customers. Some of those customers have now been with Reed’s for two decades, through the handover, without the service on their pool changing.

Common questions

Asked often enough to write down.

Anything not covered here, the office on Summer Park Drive will answer. (832) 725-3025

Every weekly visit covers a water chemistry check and chemical balance, phosphate remover, cleaning the skimmer and pump baskets, vacuuming the bottom, skimming the surface, brushing the sides, backwashing D.E. and sand filters, emptying the automatic cleaner bag, and a visual inspection of your equipment. Chlorine and acid are added as needed.

A one-time cleaning is $115 per hour plus tax, plus the cost of chemicals. It covers the same scope as a weekly visit: chemistry check and balance, skimmer and pump baskets, vacuum, skim, brushing, backwashing, emptying the cleaner bag, and a visual equipment inspection.

Weekly service is billed monthly, by paper invoice or email, whichever you prefer. Visa and Mastercard can be billed automatically each month.

The shop is on Summer Park Drive in Stafford, and we work across Sugar Land, Missouri City, Richmond and southwest Houston.

Four signs are worth a call: water that stays cold when you have a heater, water that stays dirty after a service, any cracking in the pool walls, and pool lights that have stopped working. Cracks can mean a leak and should be looked at quickly. Lights are never a do-it-yourself job.

Filters, heaters, time clocks, pumps, salt systems, lights, automated control systems and automatic cleaners. We install and service Pentair MasterTemp heaters, Pentair IntelliChlor salt cells, Pentair EasyTouch automation, VS FloPro variable-speed pumps and the Polaris 480 Pro cleaner.
